About UsThe Warwick Mauritian Society is one of the largest student-run Mauritian societies in the UK. Its foundation dates back to 2001 when a group of devoted Mauritians studying at Warwick decided to set up an organisation that would not only portray our rich and diverse culture but at the same time act as a pillar of strength to support its members through the tough challenges that University life can bring.
Catering for the needs of our members is, indeed, our golden rule and that is why we aim at providing the best guidance to our freshers by organising a Pre-Departure dinner every year in Mauritius before the start of the academic year. We believe that this is an ideal opportunity for them to bond with their future course-mates and at the same time we try to offer to them a true insight of how life at Warwick is and allow them to ask any questions they may have. Throughout the year, the society organises a wide range of events with the Warwick Mauritian Games being the prime event of the year. We also aim at preserving our local traditions by holding festive dinners on the occasion of Divali, Chinese New Year and Christmas. Every year the society participates in the One World Week festival, the "World's Largest Student Run International Event” hosted at the University of Warwick, aimed at sharing different cultures and promoting diversity. In addition, we hold various social events such as our famous Summer Barbecue, the exciting Quiz Night and the unforgettable and thrilling Treasure Hunt. The backbone of the society is a group of 7 Executive Members who dedicate themselves to its day-to-day running. They are responsible for organising the events and for continuously coming up with new ideas that will contribute to the society as a whole. |
