Badminton (Doubles)
-No Quota
-Number of Players: Either 2 men or 2 women Points Doubles badminton follows the same rules for winning points as singles badminton. Teams can win points on their own serve or on the opposing team’s serve. Teams win points by hitting serves or shots that land in bounds on the surface of the opposing team’s court. Teams also win points when the opposing team makes errors, such as hitting a shot into the net or out of bounds, hitting a fault serve, touching the net, or reaching over the net. Scoring A team must win 11 points with a two-point lead over the opposing team to win a game. Only the finals will be played to 21 points. A team must win the best of three games to win the match. Please note that after each set, teams will switch sides. Serving Position The server must stand in the right service court to serve when her team has no points or an even number of points. The server must stand in the left service court to serve when her team has an odd number of points. The server must always serve crosscourt to the service court diagonally opposite. The player on the receiving team standing in that service court must receive the serve. Players on a team switch sides of the court only when they win a point on their side. First Service A shuttlecock toss before the start of the match determines which team serves first in the first game. The team winning the toss can choose to serve or receive first, or it can choose which side of the court to play on first. The team that wins the first game gets to serve first in the second game, and the team that wins the second game gets to serve first in the third game if the match continues this far. Serving Order Either player can serve or receive first within each doubles team. After the first serving team loses a point, the partner of the player who received the serve first must serve next. When that team loses a point, the partner of the player who served first for the opposing team must serve next. When that team loses a point, the player who received the serve first serves next. Players must follow this same serving order for the duration of each game. In subsequent games, players on a team can change the order in which they serve. For example, the player who served first for the team in one game might serve second in the next game. Rallies Once the receiver returns the serve, players no longer have to follow any order for playing the shuttlecock. Any player can hit the shuttlecock from any position on the court until the rally ends. Faults The rules of badminton consider the following as faults: - If the shuttle lands outside the boundaries of the court, passes through or under the net, fail to pass the net, touches the ceiling or side walls, touches the person or dress of a player or touches any other object or person. - If the initial point of contact with the shuttle is not on the striker's side of the net. (The striker may, however, follow the shuttle over the net with the racket in the course of a stroke.) - If a player touches the net or its supports with racket, person or dress, invades an opponent's court over the net with racket or person except as permitted. - If a player invades an opponent's court under the net with racket or person such that an opponent is obstructed or distracted or obstructs an opponent, that is prevents an opponent from making a legal stroke where the shuttle is followed over the net. - If a player deliberately distracts an opponent by any action such as shouting or making gestures. - If the shuttle is caught and held on the racket and then slung during the execution of a stroke. - If the shuttle is hit twice in succession by the same player with two strokes. - If the shuttle is hit by a player and the player's partner successively or touches a player's racket and continues towards the back of that player's court. - If a player is guilty of flagrant, repeated or persistent offences under Law of Continuous Play, Misconduct, Penalties. - If, on service, the shuttle is caught on the net and remains suspended on top, or, on service, after passing over the net is caught in the net. |
